The 5th-grade goals of the 2020-2021 school year are to develop increasing independence, improve problem-solving skills, enjoy integrating and socializing at school, and use academic technology while building a positive learning community that will extend beyond the classroom.
The 5th-grade class is studying the indigenous peoples of Central and South America. They researched the many variations of the Aztec sun and created their version to enhance their cultural appreciation of the subject. Students used Math and Technology to finalize their Aztec Suns. The students are excited to begin a new chapter book, Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate. Crenshaw is a cat. He's large, outspoken, and imaginary. It is a wonderful story about a ten-year-old whose family is struggling for money for rent and food. The 5th-grade will launch their service-learning project after reading the story.
